My One Day in Business Casual

IMG_3916

I was so excited to shop for a business casual outfit to wear to a conference this past fall. Being in the Coast Guard and wearing a uniform makes getting ready for work easy, but I rarely have the chance to dress up! I meandered up and down King Street to shop for this ensemble. King Street is one of my favorite places in Charleston- it’s truly charming with a bit of an old-timey feel, and hosts an impressive array of big name stores, local boutiques, and incredible restaurants.

Unfortunately the conference I bought this outfit for was canceled so I never did get my one day in business casual. I’ll be ready for the next opportunity, whenever that comes!

Riding down Rainbow Row

Also not pictured: My helmet (but don’t worry, I’m sure I brought it!)

I absolutely love my Huffy bike, affectionately named Maddie.  She fit right in during my ride down Rainbow Row despite some close calls with several horse & buggy rides.

Welcome to my Blog!

IMG_4020IMG_E4006If you’ve made it to my page, thank you for reading! My name is Lauren and I’m 25 years old and living in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. I’m here to share some of my favorite outfits and the inspiration behind what I wear!

I’ve loved clothing for as long as I can remember…which is definitely not to say every outfit has been on point! To be honest, looking back at some of the outfits I’ve put together (especially in my middle school/early high school days) makes me cringe. But the best part about style is that it’s constantly changing, evolving, and maturing with you.

Recently, I’ve been getting most of my style inspiration from Sarah Vickers, author of the blog Classy Girls Wear Pearls, wife of Kiel James Patrick (KJP), and co-founder of the Kiel James Patrick brand. Sarah’s clothing is classic with gorgeous details, and she embraces preppy without appearing overdone or stuffy. She likes to incorporate pops of color and simple yet unexpected accessories into her traditional outfit schemes, which always makes her look appear interesting and put together. I’ve also enjoyed following Kate Padgitt, author of the blog Lonestar Southern. Kate’s style can best be described as preppy, girly, and fun.

My go-to brands that have worked well for me over the years are Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, and Lilly Pulitzer. Two brands I’ve recently incorporated into my wardrobe are Kiel James Patrick and Lauren James. I love Kiel James Patrick’s nautical theme, 100% American-made products, and gorgeous photographs on Instagram (follow @kjp and @sarahkjp and you’ll instantly want their closets…and their dog). I admire Kiel & Sarah’s entrepreneurship; teaching themselves to sew and launching their company while in their twenties. Similarly, I’m inspired by 28 year old Lauren Stokes, CEO of the Lauren James brand, who started the company in 2013 and was recently named by Forbes in 30 under 30. The brand’s catchy slogan, “Your Day Just Got Better!” and fun, girly details make Lauren James one of my hands-down favorites.
